SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The third ranked Clinton College volleyball team picked up two wins going 2-1 during their recent trip to Virginia last weekend. The Bears first routed Sweet Briar College 3-0 on Thursday before falling to Randolph College (VA) 3-2 on Friday afternoon. They then swept Hood University (MD) 3-0 on Friday evening.
In the SBC win, Clinton won by dominating 25-4, 25-8, and 25-3 set wins while totaling 25 kills and only errors to hit .537 as a team. Leading them in kills was middle Alexia Cunningham with 9 as she hit .727 with 3 blocks, a dig and an assist. Freshman OH Madison Weber also had 6 kills and aces in the win while setter Maria Colon added 7 assists. Middle blocker Monica Burns also had 3 kills, 4 aces, and two digs in the win.
RANDOLPH 3, CLINTON 2
LYNCHBURG, Va. - In the five set loss to Randolph (2-6), the Bears rallied from a set down to force a deciding 5th but lost 15-7. RC won the first set 25-15 before Clinton took the second 25-20. The Wildcats then edged the bears in a marathon third set 30-28 before CC won the fourth 25-17.
Clinton totaled 49 kills in the match hitting at a .127 clip with 72 digs, 12 blocks and six aces. Randolph had 59 kills and hit .176. Clinton was led by 19 kills from Weber and 10 digs for her double double while she hit .190 with a block and an ace. Burns added 8 kills in the middle hitting .273 with 2 blocks, two digs, and an ace while Doris Rodrigo also had 9 kills and 2 blocks in the middle.
Setter Sierra Faulkner recorded 24 assists with 10 dgis for a double double along with 2 klls, 2 blocks and an ace while Cunningham had 5 kills and 5 blocks. Libero Charla White led with 23 digs along with 4 assists while setter Ashlyn Knight registered 13 assists and 11 digs.
CLINTON 3, HOOD 0
In the three set win over Hood, Clinton won by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-15 totaling 30 kills and hitting .141. CC racked up 40 digs, 28 assists and 12 aces as well. Weber led the team again with 14 kills hitting .158 with five digs and two aces while Cunningham had 6 kills. Knight also recorded 14 assists and 10 digs for a double double while Faulkner had 11 assists, 9 digs, 3 kills, and an ace.
Clinton is now 7-2 on the season and next hosts Allen University Tuesday night at 7 pm.
